Music Industry Talk

Interview with Maria Peach

Maria Peach

Maria Peach is a Country musician.

Why did you want to be a professional musician?

Music has always been my first love. When I was a young girl I found myself singing constantly whether I was swinging on a swing, walking down a dirt path or riding a bicycle. Music was always in my head.

What inspires your music?

Everything.

What things get you in the mood to write songs or do lyrics come spontaneously?

Lyrics come spontaneously but when writing music I just feel it. It comes from within. Mostly in the still of the night.

How do you want your music to affect people?

To bring them happiness and something to dance to.

Do you test out your songs before releasing them? How do you do this?

Every now and then. When I am out singing I weave it into our setlist.

How do you prepare for a gig?

Rehearsing with my daughter at times and just sitting playing my guitar signing. Sometimes I'll be listening to music and playing alongside certain songs.

What is your favorite song that you've written?

That's a very difficult question. I have a few favorites but I do love Yours Till.

Has there been a reaction to one of your songs that you've been surprised by?

Not that I am aware of.

What are some ways that you promote yourself?

Singing at people.

What would you say has been the biggest challenge of your career?

I honestly couldn't say. I just like to keep things moving and enjoying the walk.

What have been your favorite places to tour?

All across Canada - the armed forces and the radar bases; and headlining the exhibitions out west.

Are there advantages to being an independent musician?

There are advantages to both being on a record label which I was in the past and being independent which I am now. Being independent allows me to set my own schedule and choose my own songs but I was also happy on the label with the touring schedule.
