Interview with Harriet Chung
Harriet Chung is a pop singer.
Why did you want to be a professional musician?
Since I was a little girl, I loved singing and dancing. I love using music and dance to tell a story. I'm a storyteller.
What inspires your music?
Love, the beauty in the world we live in, and passion.
What things get you in the mood to write songs, or do lyrics come spontaneously?
Melodies come into my head from time to time. I'm not a lyricist. My songwriting is through music.
Do you find song writing easy or difficult?
It depends, sometimes it's really easy and it just flows. Sometimes if I have a mind block, I will listen to other artists to get inspiration.
How do you want your music to affect people?
I want them to enjoy the journey and the storytelling which I hope they can relate to on a personal level.
Do you test out your songs before releasing them? How do you do this?
I send them to my family and friends and ask them for feedback.
How do you prepare for a gig?
I rehearse in my studio, and I mentally rehearse a lot by picturing myself in front of the audience.
Has there been a reaction to one of your songs that you've been surprised by?
Yes I have been surprised at the enormous reaction to Today and Tomorrow. It is a song about the love between a parent and child and how much that love affects them for a lifetime. People have told me how it has touched them.
How do you promote yourself?
I connect with my fans on social media and have created some nice music videos to help promote the songs.
What do you most like about filming music videos?
I love the whole process from getting my makeup and hair done to dressing up in fancy outfits. I love the process of telling the story of my songs visually through acting and dance.
Why do you think your music videos win awards?
I think the concepts for my music videos are well thought out, and they really complement the songs well.
